For June, a Helping of My Favorite Quotes
I have been keeping a quotation notebook for many years. I got the idea from author, Rosemary Daniel, after attending one of her Zona Roza writing workshops. Some quotations come from Rosemary. I have borrowed the others from all over. I hope you enjoy reading these. Please send me your favorite quotes. I would love to hear from you. Here are a few of my favorites:
"Writing is like going to the psychiatrist. It is a way to discover things about yourself."
"Cleaning the house is like stringing beads on a rope with no knot in it."
"Men are from earth. Women are from earth. Deal with it."
"There are three rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what the are." Victor Hugo
"No one gives a shit whether you write or not, and your family hopes you won't. The story you tell is your story, what you saw happen. If they didn't want you to write about it, they should have behaved better." Anne Lamott (This is my all time favorite.)
"An author should know how much change a character has in his pocket."
"If your ship doesn't come in, swim out to meet it."
"The cardiologist's diet. If it tastes good, Spit it out."
"Have faith. Believe in yourself. It will double your worth."
"Jesus is always playing the music softly in our lives. Listen carefully." Anne Lamott
(I love Anne Lamott - Bird by Bird, her book on writing is terrific.)
