Save Me A Place

Save Me A Place

If you should get there before I do,

save me a place on your right side.

I will be along when I am called.

In the meantime, I'll water the pansies,

fill the birdfeeders, watch the woodpecker

work out his frustrations on the tall pines.

I'll plant pink begonias, red and white impatiens

and wait for the Carolina Wren to build

her nest in the hanging basket outside

the porch door. I will walk the steep hills,

kick rocks and acorns down the cracked

pavement, listen to the leaves tell secrets

as I wait to cross the bridge to you.
