This morning while looking through one of my many journals, I found some notes describing happiness as inner peace, inner freedom, and inner strength -- and also as having an appreciation of your life. That made me think about a wonderful gentleman my husband and I met last summer while on a cruise . This 90-year old, who had suffered many ailments, gave me a new perspective on life. He had trouble walking around but he never complained. After all, he said,"how many people get to live as long a life as I have and get to be as happy as I am? I call my ailments privileges. This man, a retired doctor, had done research for children's leukemia. He and his wife had helped raised millions of dollars to help build a facility for parents of leukemia patients so they could stay near their children in the hospital. He was the very picture of inner strength and happiness.
