Meet Lisbeth
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
I was born in Vandalia, a small town in Southern Illinois. I’ve always loved books and reading. As a child, I enjoyed writing poetry and stories. I moved to Indianapolis during high school and graduated from Broad Ripple High School. After high school graduation, I went to the University of Illinois and studied Art-Advertising Design. I met my husband, Doug, at California State Polytechnical College in San Luis Obispo, California, where I worked as a secretary. We married at the Old Mission Church in San Luis Obispo. We have lived in California, Wisconsin, and now in Savannah, Georgia. While living in Atlanta, I graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State University with a B.A in English-Creative Writing.
My writing often focuses on happenings in ordinary lives. I often write about women and their relationships. My first novel, Row Away from the Rocks, (NewSouth Books-2004), is a complex psychological tale of life, loss, and dying. At present, I’m marketing this novel as required reading for nursing and medical students.
My second novel, Tessa and Claudine, is the story of two sisters who struggle to get along as they cope with a disturbed, alcoholic mother, who is determined to drive a wedge between them. It isn’t until after Tessa and Claudine suffer through a family tragedy that they are finally able to bond.
I’ve also published essays, short stories, and poetry in newspapers and magazines such as: The Milwaukee Journal, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Catholic Digest, Ideals Magazine, Home Life Magazine, The Georgia Journal, and Catalyst. My short story, Don’t Take the First Cassserole, was published in Building Bridges, the 2008 San Francisco Writing Workshop Anthology.
I’ve worked as a writer, a carhop, a dining hall waitress, a travel agent, a hospice volunteer, a writing teacher, a Girl Scout leader, a domestic engineer, and a mom of three children under the age of five. I have traveled to far away places, sometimes for real and sometimes in the hundreds of books I have read. I often live inside my head — it’s a joyous place to be.
